David forgot his polo neck top at Go on Thursday, and asked me to take it for him, and then I forgot as well. Did anyone take it last night, or know what happened to it?
Update: Dale had it, so no need to worry, folks.

Besides Jaco and Flo’s game, last night also saw Bernard progressing to preliminary round 3 of the Western Cape Closed when he beat Christina. Despite this loss, Christina was promoted on the base of other games last night to 12 kyu. Other players’ new Western Cape rankings: PW (28k), Hanno (22k), and Fan-Lin (11k).

Jaco Swanepoel and Florian Breuer had a hard-fought game lasting about 4 hours to complete the first round of the 2nd Quarter Handicap tournament. In the end, Jaco was unable to make a group struggling inside Flo’s moyo live, and was forced to resign. The draw for Round 2 is ready, and available here.
Update: Here’s a picture to illustrate the situation (thanks, Rory!). Jaco’s white group in the centre is struggling hard to live, but it doesn’t seem as if he can save them.

Victor has kindly commented one of my games (against Sipho Mampe 2-kyu) from the JHB Open 2005. Download below.
Interesting joseki discussion plus good invasion tip. Thanks Victor. And, thank goodness, no dummy moves for me this time.

Stellenbosch Club’s next committee meeting is on 26 July. If you want us to discuss something there, or if you want to raise any issues with the committee for discussion before that, please mail Steve Kroon.
Also, the date for this year’s Annual General Meeting has been finalised for Thursday, 15 September at 19h00. Although it would be preferable to meet elsewhere, the Neelsie is our fallback position – please mail us with any suggestions or ideas. All members are encouraged to attend the AGM to have a say in the running of the club. One of the important things done each year at the AGM is selecting the club’s committee for the next year.

The Lyons Go Club has a tool on their website which attempts to map influence. The program displays influence for each colour, as well as the tension between the two players’ frameworks, as well as flux. The project is in an early stage, but it still looks cool!
Check it out, by clicking here, and then on “Start the simulation”. From there you can click on intersections to add moves.
