On Tuesday, Korean Ch’oe Ch’eol-han (B), holder of the Ch’eonweon title beat Chinese Gu Li (W), holder of the Tianyuan title, to go 1-0 up in the China-Korea Tengen match. The Chinese and Korean titles here are equivalent in meaning to the Japanese Tengen title. Gu Li (7d) won the China-Korea Tengen match last year. The next two games of the match will be held today and tomorrow.

The only country with other activity in the final stages of the pro tournaments the last 2 days was Korea. In the Osram Korean Young Players’ Cup, Kang Dongyun (3d) eliminated Pak Chi-eun (6d) by resignation to claim his place in the best-of-3 final, where he will face either Lee Yeongku (4d) or rising star Ko Geuntae(3d).
