Yashiro to challenge Chinen for Female Honinbo title

Yashiro Kumiko (5-dan) defeated Kato Keiko (4-dan) in the final of the challenger tournament for the 24th Honinbo title yesterday. This will be the second time Yashiro challenges for the title. Her last try was in 2002, against Kobayashi Izumi. Kobayashi held the title for three successive years, from 2001-2003, successfully defending it against Yoshiro and current title-holder Chinen Kaori (3-dan). In her 4th defence of the title, though, she was defeated 3-1 by Chinen in the best-of-5 final. Chinen has been a regular in the female Honinbo title matches since 1995, having played in the match 7 times in the last 10 years, and winning the title 4 of those times.
