Stellenbosch club meetings cancelled for holidays

The Tuesday evening meetings of the Stellenbosch Go club have been cancelled for the duration of the university holidays and the rest of the exam period. In addition, there will be no club meeting on the evening of 24 July, due to the visiting Chinese delegation in Cape Town. So club meetings will resume on 31 July.

In the meantime, the Tuesday lunch meetings in the MIH Media Lab will continue, so if you still want your Go fix, contact Francois or Steve to get details of those meetings.

Based on user feedback, some enhancements have been made to the Android app. From the release notes:

  • Changed player rating list to have a more modern look
  • Added a background colour change when clicking a list item to give better feedback
  • Added a launch icon

Call for 23rd International Amateur Pair Go Championship Entries

The 23rd International Amateur Pair Go Championship is taking placing in Tokyo on Nov 3 and 4 this year. Information about last year’s tournament can be found at: http://www.pairgo.or.jp/amateur/index_e.htm

It seems that everything except 50% of the air-fare is covered for representatives, so you will need to pay in the difference, or find sponsors for it. It is unlikely that credit points will be deducted.

Please contact Francois van Niekerk at flash.slash@gmail.com by 22 June if you would like to enter.

    Android app now available

I’ve written an Android app which South African Go players may find useful. In it’s current iteration, it allows you to see the ranks of all the players, as well as seeing the detailed results history of each player.

There are also some admin functions to allow you to capture game results, but you’ll need an admin user id and password for this functionality.

To use the app, show the player ratings, and then click on a player to see their log file. This should prove useful at club nights, as the website is not the easiest thing to use from a phone.

Ideas for further features welcomed. Mail me directly or add comments.

In order to install the app, you’ll need to allow side loading, which means allowing “Unknown sources” in your settings. Once you’ve done this, you can download the app here: sago.apk

The source code is available at github.
