MATTERS ARISING :

PRESIDENTS REPORT

  • PRESIDENT OPENED THE MEETING BY STATING THAT THE SAGA MEMBERSHIP FOR THE YEAR HAS BEEN AT AN ALL TIME LOW
  • PRESIDENT STATED THAT THIS IS DESPITE THE INCREASE OF AWARENESS OF MIND SPORTS AND THE POSSIBLE INCLUSION OF CHESS AS AN OLYMPIC SPORT.
  • INTERNATIONALLY , VICTOR CHOW HAS DONE WELL , HAVING PLACED FIFTH IN THE WORLD AMATEUR GO CHAMPIONSHIPS HELD IN JAPAN
  • ON THE DEVELOPMENT SIDE , THE PRESIDENT STATED THAT THE ASSOCIATION HAS REACHED 5 NEW SCHOOLS AND APPROXIMATELY 150 NEW CHILDREN HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED TO GO
  • AN INITIATIVE HAS BEEN LAUNCHED TO SEE SAGA HAVE A PRESENCE ON THE WEB. THE PRESIDENT STATED THAT ALL THOUGH HE HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED, THIS SEEMS TO BE GOING WELL , HE CAUTIONED THAT WHAT EVER GUISE THE WEB PRESENCE TAKES , IT MUST BE AN INCLUSIVE EXERCISE
  • PRESIDENT STATED THAT ALTHOUGH THE MEMBERSHIP IS DOWN, THERE HAS BEEN AN INCREASE IN GO ACTIVITY, SUCH AS THE REGULAR HOLDING OF TOURNAMENT ETC.
  • PRESIDENT STATED THAT THE FINANCES ARE STABLE
  • SAGA MADE A PROFIT FOR THE YEAR , THIS WAS DUE TO HIGH INTEREST RATES
  • PRESIDENT STATED THAT WITH CURRENT CASH RESERVES SAGA CAN CONTINUE FOR ANOTHER 2 YEARS SHOULD A MAJOR SPONSOR FALL THROUGH
  • SAGA MADE A LOSS ON AN INTERNATIONAL UNIT TRUST AS A RESULT OF FOREX ISSUES

END OF PRESIDENT REPORT

GENERAL BUSINESS

  • SIPHO INQUIRED AS TO WHAT INITIATIVES WERE UNDER WAY TO INTRODUCE “WHITE ” SCHOOLS TO THE GAME.
  • PRESIDENT RESPONDED BY STATING THAT THE INITIATE NEEDED SOME ONE TO DRIVE IT.
  • PAUL EDWARDS STATED THAT IN ALL INSTANCES, EQUIPMENT IS SORELY LACKING AND AS SUCH THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE ANY RECRUITMENT DRIVES CAN BE INITIATED
  • PAUL EDWARDS STATED THAT HE WOULD LIKE LESS RESPONSIBILITY GOING FORWARD
  • PRESIDENT COMMENDED TRISTEN TAYLOR FOR THE REVIVAL OF THE GO REPORT
  • TWO COUNCIL MEMBERS WERE DRAWN TO STEP DOWN FORM THE COUNCIL, A VOTE WAS HELD TO ELECT TWO NEW MEMBERS.
  • TWO MEMBERS WHO WERE TO STEP DOWN ARE FABIO COSTA AND TRISTEN TAYLOR
  • TWO NEW MEMBERS ARE TRISTEN TAYLOR AND KAGISO MAMPE

MEETING WAS BROUGHT TO AN END
