A notice for the SAGA AGM was issued in February, but due to various issues the AGM was postponed. Paul Edwards, President of SAGA, wrote in an accompanying letter to the notice:
Dear SAGA members,
The AGM of the South African Go Association will be held on Saturday 10th September 2005. See attached notice for details.
The AGM was originally due to be held earlier this year but it was postponed for the following reasons.
1. In order to be able to call for nominations for the vacancy on council caused by the death of Kagiso Mampe who died soon after the original closing date for nominations.
2. To propose some amendments to the constitution in order to eliminate certain inconsistencies which were discovered at that time.
Thanks mainly to the efforts of Leander Gaum, Steve Kroon and Konrad Scheffler the proposed amendments have been formulated and are contained in attached Appendix B.
All the recommended amendments have been grouped together in Proposal No.1 for consideration as a whole. In the first instance you are asked either to accept or reject this proposal. If you reject proposal No.1 then you are asked to consider and vote for each of proposals numbered 2 to 10 by completing the ballot form (Appendix D). The form should be returned by email, post or hand to reach Leander at least a day or two before the AGM but the sooner the better.
As far as the nomination of candidates for election to council is concerned the situation has changed considerably. I have decided to resign from council with effect from the AGM which means that together with the position vacated by Kagiso the number of vacancies has increased from the original three to five. In addition Leander has withdrawn his nomination leaving three nominees of the four that had originally been accepted.
Since SAGA is a democratic organization the authority of the council is derived from the members of SAGA through the electoral process. The first part of that process, and perhaps the most important, is the nomination of candidates for election to council. Nominations will be accepted until the cut off date of July 30th (see attached nomination form Appendix C).
Also attached is a list of SAGA members since 2003. Only current members are eligible to vote.

The Annual General Meeting of the South African Go Association will be held on Saturday 10th September 2005 at 17h00 at the Westdene recreation centre, Parklane North, Westdene, Johannesburg.
1. Adoption of the minutes of the previous Annual General Meeting. (Appendix A)
2. Receipt and consideration of Officers’ reports.
3. Adoption of annual financial statements.
4. Proposed Constitutional changes. (Appendix B)
5. Election of Council Members.
Proposed changes to the constitution:
The completed ballot paper for the proposed constitutional changes (Appendix D) may be handed to the Secretary at the AGM or should be posted in good time to reach the Secretary at least a day or two before the AGM.
Nomination of candidates for election as members of council:
The council of SAGA consists of six elected members. The current council members are, in alphabetical order, Sakkie Buys, Paul Edwards, Leander Gaum and Julius Paulu, with two positions vacant due to the resignation earlier this year of Tristen Taylor and the death of Kagiso Mampe. At this AGM Sakkie Buys and Leander Gaum will be retiring as their terms of office expire and Paul Edwards will be resigning. This means that there are five vacancies on Council. Two of these vacancies are for a three-year period, one for a two-year term and two vacancies are for a one-year term.
Julius Paulu, the only remaining member on council, still has two years, of his three-year term, to serve.
Neither Leander Gaum nor Paul Edwards is available for re-election.
Nominations (written or electronic), for the five vacancies on council, should reach the Secretary on or before 30th July 2005. Nominations (Appendix C) should be signed by a proposer, a seconder and agreed to by the candidate all of whom should be ordinary members of SAGA.
If more than five valid nominations are received before the cut off date then a postal ballot will be arranged. If five nominations are received then all nominees will be declared elected. If fewer than five nominations are received then all nominees will be declared elected and nominations for the remaining positions will be called for at the AGM.
To date the following three valid nominations have been received. Sakkie Buys, Victor Chow and Konrad Scheffler.
