The South African Contenders Tournament is the final stage of the South African Closed Championships, the winner of the tournament being declared South African Closed Champion.
This tournament is an up-to-8-player round robin, with the top 4 from the previous year qualifying automatically, and the top 4 (or less, if appropriate) from the Candidates’ stage filling the other places. The winner of the Contenders’ stage is declared South African Closed Champion.
In 2004, this tournament was held on 24-26 September.
In 2003, this tournament was held on 26-28 September at Westdene Recreation Centre.
In 1999, this tournament was scheduled for 24-26 September.
