This tournament was a qualifying tournament for the South African Closed Championships 2003.

Announcement:

4th Soweto Open Go Tournament

Venue: Forte High School Hall, Jonas Moabi Drive, Dobsonville, Soweto

Date: Sunday 16 March 2003

Starting time: 10:00 sharp

Registration: Registration closes on Saturday 15 March. Late registration on the day will close at 9h30 sharp, no exceptions. In all cases tournament fees must be paid before late registration closes on Sunday 23 March.

Fees:

SAGA members: Normal members: R30
Students: R15
Scholars: R5
Non-members: R60
Late registration surcharge: R10
Jackpot fee: R10
Any tournament participant who is a SAGA member may enter the Jackpot.

Format: The tournament will be a 3 round MacMahon, open to all players. The initial MacMahon score of participants will be determined by their latest available rank in the SAGA ranking record. Handicaps will be determined on the basis of the MacMahon score difference between paired players minus two.

Time Limits: 45 minutes thinking time per player plus 10 moves for each 5 minute overtime period per game.

Komi: White will receive a komi of 6 1/2 points in even games and 1/2 point in handicap games.

Spot Prizes:

There will be one spot prize of R100.00 for every fifteen participants. Only players who have played all their games and are present at the prizegiving will be eligible.

Jackpot – Starts at R1000.00

Tournament participants who are SAGA members may enter the Jackpot draw for a fee of R10. One third of the money collected will be added to the jackpot and carried forward to the next tournament if not won. The remainder will be collected to start the next jackpot. For every ten entrants, a round number and board will be drawn. The winner of that game, if a jackpot entrant, will draw a stone from a bag containing 30 stones, one of which will be black. Drawing the black stone will win the jackpot.
