Stellenbosch Go Club AGM

Minutes of the Stellenbosch Go Club Annual General Meeting held at 19h00 in the Neelsie on Thursday 15 September 2005

1. Steve Kroon opened the meeting and verified that we had a quorum of 15 members attending. Including proxies, 16 members were represented, so the meeting could be continued.

2. Apologies made for W. Conradie and C. Auret who could not attend the meeting.

3. Proposed change to the Constitution:

A grammatical error in the constitution needed to be fixed. It was proposed that paragraph 3.3.1 be changed from:
“3.3.1 The members of the management committee will be held jointly and
severally liable for any actions or decisions taken by the
committee, which are in contravention to the provisions of and the
spirit of this constitution, provided that such action or decision
was taken or made whilst the member was in office and the member had
full knowledge thereof.”
to:
“3.3.1 The members of the management committee will be held jointly and
severally liable for any actions or decisions taken by the
committee that are in contravention to the provisions of or the
spirit of this constitution, provided that such action or decision
was taken or made whilst the member was in office and the member had
full knowledge thereof.”

Steve called for a vote on the matter. 15 votes for and 0 against (1 abstained) the proposal were recorded, so
it was passed.

4. Presidents’ report and queries to outgoing comittee:

The following notes are a summary of Steve’s report on the clubs 2004/2005 term:

-Thanks to the outgoing committee, also to Jaco Swanepoel (website) and
Hugo van der Merwe (Tournament Director)
-Last 2 years has seen us change from a backwater to a leading force in SA
Go:
–Membership up from 21 to 50 (last year Konrad, David and I only players
above 10k, now 13 players, with 5 having surpassed David and I) (mention
Gauteng/WC Showdown)
–Possibility of hosting SA Open and African Go Oza, and also visit by
Aketa Katsuyuki
–Half of the SAGA council is from our club
-New tournaments: 9×9, leagues, handicap tournament, WC Closed (with Cape
Town – but organised by us)
-Meetings longer now, starting at 5 p.m.
-We’ve affiliated to SAGA (sort of)
-Mailing list set up improving communication
-Thru SAGA we’ve provided books and sets to a number of players
-Website has expanded for infrastructure to 3 other clubs in the country &
SAGA (still not included: Soweto, Durban, Wits)
-School projects – number of avenues investigated, but nothing off the
ground yet, have 10 sets from SAGA for the projects – volunteer for
Bridgehouse needed
-Plan to form a regional council along with Cape Town club – proposed
constitution with SAGA at the moment.

5. Elections:

There were only 5 nominees and so they where duly declared elected.

6. Matters Arising:

Ben asked about a Go T-Shirt. Steve told him that the matter was already enjoying attention.
